Sometimes I wish I could put bags over their heads

....then people couldn't judge them by the way they look.

SO - I've had this little dilema (quite minor in the grand scheme of things really). But, you all know how I verge on being anal about my soap turning out "attractive" shall we say.

WELL - recently I made this batch of soap. Once I was done pouring it into the mold, I was so happy and excited because it smelled really delightful and I had made beautiful purple, red and green swirlies with gold dust sprinkled in with the red parts. It was to be a girly girl's soap and would invoke the feeling of giddy happiness.

Well, can I tell you that those grandiose visions were soon killed off as I watched my beautiful batch cure over the next few weeks. It went from a lovely creamy white to caramel and then onto the ugly doo-doo brown you see in the picture. Quite disgusted, I decided that the entire batch was destined for nowhere further than down the hallway to my own bathroom (once again)!! What a bloody waste!

Long story short - I was in the Etsy forums today griping about this ugly soap and a fellow Etsian kathijane suggested that I call this batch "Butt Ugly Soap" for Butt Ugly Skin! What a genius! I think I'll do just that :)

LOL! Good name, although I don't think it looks as bad as you think it looks. At least it's not SNOT green. Blech!!

nah, I don't think it's all that ugly. In fact, I kinda like it! At least it isn't that weird not quite green/not quite grey/not quite brownish color. ew.

Actually, it looks very yummy to me. I'm not sure what scents you have in there, but it looks like a piece of hot fudge brownie, and anything that looks like fudge, is fair game in my book... hehee

hahaha!! That's a cute name.

I don't think it's that ugly, though.

Sharon, I think it's really not as bad as you think! I think it looks kinda brownie-esque as well!

And most importantly: I wont be judging, I am an equal opportunity soap buyer!

Okay, I am ready, dear. I think those are so beautiful. Brown is one of my favorite colors. Soothing and mellow. So send me a bar for goodness sakes and let me review it!@!!!!!!

Joanna - I couldn't possibly do that! What if you like it? What if you vote for it? Then it would be plastered all over creation for all and sundry to see. Good Lawd - the thought alone has my stomach churning.
Here's what we'll do - I'll send it to you along with the others but it's not to be included in the judging. what say you?

I actually love the look of this soap!

Actually, the more unusual, the more I'm attracted to see what's in it... "What makes it look like THAT?"
Then you see it's got all good stuff for my skin in it and I'm hooked.

That actually looks beautiful to me. It looks so, well, lavish, I guess.

I bet that's some awesome-smelling soap. I know what you mean by people judging soap by the color and turning their noses up at the brown. I used to just avoid vanillas completely even tho I loved working with the scents, but then my brother married a woman who is an absolute vanilla FREAK, so I had to start stocking a good one.

I explained awhile back on my blog about the ambers and browns that turn up sometimes despite my best efforts, and I got a surprisingly positive response this time--folks saying they loved the look I managed with a reverse swirl. So maybe I'll start pulling out more of the discolor offenders and give them another run with my current customer base.

Pandora - I think you're right. I had one customer purchase 1 bar then come back and buy 6 more of these. I'm down to my last 2 bars now (not counting the one going to Joanna S :)
