Funny how

you can make something out of nothing when you have no choice.

All you fellow soapmakers know how expensive soap molds are, even the simplest mold can cost big bucks. I came to this realization recently when I decided it was time for me to step up from making 3 or 4lb batches to 6 or even 8lb in order to save time and make my process more cost effective. I set out on my search for the perfect mold on the web but after a couple days of searching I came to the conclusion that either I would have to make my own mold or find something that I already owned that could be fashioned into one.

Then it hit me..............last year while at my local dollar store I stumbled across these beautiful wooden tequila boxes for just a buck each. I had no idea what I was going to do with them so I only bought 2 (punching myself in the head now). I've been using them to add height on my display table at craft fairs/shows and that's it. I grabbed one, got my tape measure out and realized that one of these babies could get me 2 full 3lb logs of soap. This past weekend I managed to make 64 bars of soap in one sitting!! This pick shows just one of the batches - Black Raspberry Vanilla which turned out 32 bars of loveliness :)

Hey, who can beat that price! What a great idea. I bet I have a ton of stuff that would double as a mold. :D

Well that is thinking creatively!
That soap is sooo pretty!! It probably has great karma since it's in a mold that held tequila in its former life!!
